Edit a topic for cut, copy, and paste

Step-by-step instructions on how to cut, copy, or paste a topic anywhere in the list of topics

This article describes how you can cut, copy, or paste a topic in the hierarchical structure of all the topics in your bizExaminer authoring environment.

Summary

When you have multiple topics, you can copy or move a topic around in the structure, anywhere. When you cut or copy a topic, the entire set of questions or even topics within this topic are copied and moved to another location where you paste it.

This is useful when you want to add similar types of questions that already exist in another topic, but with minor edits. If you copy the topic and paste it in another location, the questions are also copied and pasted to the new location. Now you can edit the questions and save the time to create the same set of questions from scratch.

Find the topic location

  1. Sign in to bizExaminer.
  2. Switch into the ‘author’ role using the role-switcher in the top left corner of the screen.

The roles depend on your subscription plan for bizExaminer. There are cases when you may not see this option to switch to different roles and you directly see the author role for the authoring environment. If you have more questions, please contact your account administrator.

  1. In the sidebar, the ‘Topics and Questions’ option is selected by default.
  2. The list of topics is shown in a hierarchical structure, as the folders.
  3. Locate the target topic.

You cannot see the option to edit a topic if even one of its internal topics is protected. Please see Protect and unprotect a topic for details.

Cut and paste a topic

In this case, the original topic that you cut is removed from its original location.

  3. Click on any other topic where you want to paste it.
  4. Click on the context-menu icon that is available immediately to the right side of this target topic name. A few options appear in the context menu for actions or tasks for this topic.
  5. Select ‘Edit > Paste’ to paste the copied topic here.
  6. bizExaminer shows you a message that the copied topic’s questions and folders will also be pasted in this topic. Click on ‘Yes’ to confirm it.
  7. The copied topic is pasted for its entire structure. This topic is not available at its original location now.
