General settings
Step-by-step instructions on how to set up general settings of an exam module
This article describes how you can set up the general settings of an exam, in your biz:Examiner authoring environment.
The first steps
There are different options for how you can create a new exam. In either option, the ‘General Settings’ is the first step to add basic details about the exam. Please see Create a new exam to get started with creating an exam.
The ‘General Settings’ details
Add the ‘General Settings’ details for the exam module, as below.
- Title: The ‘Title’ shows you the exam module name, by default. Change the title, as required.
- Description: Add a brief description about this exam module.
- Use question content language: Select the language of the questions in this Exam module. When you select the topics to add questions to this exam module, only the questions in the same language are available to be added to this exam module.
- Exam type: You can set up an exam as a demo before you share it as the real exam. For example, you can set up the demo exam as a test run for the internal users or reviewers to test the exam structure and the participants’ experience. You can also plan the demo to share the demo exam with the real participants, as a dry run to make them familiar with the exams’ interface. A demo exam works a little differently than the real exam. Please see Demo exams for more details.
- Bookable: A bookable exam module means you can schedule it for the participants. Select this option to make this exam module bookable so that you can schedule it later.
- Module order active: If enabled, you must enter an order position for this exam module. When multiple exam modules are scheduled to the same participant and module order is active, the participant has to take the exam modules in the order defined here.
- Validity: These are the two dates within which you can schedule the exam module. Select the two dates for scheduling the exam module.
- biz:Guard required: You have an option to make the participants participate in the exam module from within the biz:Guard lockdown client only.
- SafeExamBrowser (SEB) required: If enabled, the Exam module requires the lockdown client of SafeExamBrowser (SEB) to be started. Turn the requirement of SafeExamBrowser (SEB) for your Exam on or off.
- SEB Config Key: Insert the SEB configuration key. You can copy it from the SEB configuration tool and insert it through the button on the right end of the textbox. The SEB Config key is generated when saving the .seb-file. You can find it on the exam tab of the SafeExamBrowser configuration tool. An up-to-date SEB Version is required (min. SEB 2.4 for Windows, min. SEB 2.1.4 for macOS).
Please see https://www.safeexambroser.org for more information.

- Legal notice: You can share a legal notice that the participants need to read and accept before they start taking the exam. Select a legal notice if available in the list. To create a new legal notice, click on the small icon and the ‘Legal notice’ dialog box opens.
- Show warning before block/exam time expiration: Enable this option to show the expiry of the exam time caution to the participants. When you enable it, specify time (in minutes) when this message appears before the end time. This setting is valid only if a block timer was selected for the exam block(s).
- Internal ID: You can use an internal ID for this exam module, for your internal use. Enter the ID in ‘Internal ID’, and this ID is shown only here in your authoring environment.
If you have integrated biz:Examiner with your infrastructure by the biz:Examiner API, this internal ID is of more importance.
